Division welcomes new Director of Learning - Secondary

NGPS is pleased to welcome Mrs. Beth Jager to the Central Services team as the new Director of Learning - Secondary, effective August 2024. In her new role, Mrs. Jager will support NGPS schools and educators in the areas of the 7-12 Curriculum, Diploma Exams, Dual Credit/Registered Apprenticeship Programming, Career Counseling, Work Experience and Off-Campus Programming, and Assessment.

Her appreciation for the secondary learning environment and extensive experience coordinating diverse learning opportunities for students will be an asset to the Division. An experienced secondary school teacher and administrator, Mrs. Jager brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the position, developed over her years as a teacher, volunteer, coach, Assistant Principal, and Principal of Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High School (MHS). Mrs. Jager holds Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Calgary.

Mrs. Jager has developed, led and supported many Division projects, including the Gateway Academy Career Exposure Summer Boot Camps, the Dual Credit Health Care Aide program at MHS, High School Redesign Project Implementation, Professional Development workshops, NGPS Workplace Wellness and numerous athletic competitions. In addition, Mrs. Jager is an avid volunteer within her community, serving in numerous capacities through the years with 4H, different athletic associations, and as the Chair of the Mayerthorpe Youth Justice Committee since 2013. 

Ms. Jager shares, "The opportunity to work in a new capacity for Northern Gateway Public Schools is incredibly exciting. I have thoroughly valued my 15 years with Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High School and all of the lessons I have learned from the dedicated staff, students, parents and community. I am looking forward to the challenge of the new position and working collaboratively with the division team in supporting educational achievement for all of our students."

Mrs. Jager will assume her new role with the Division in August of 2024. A process will begin immediately to determine the next Principal of Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High School.
