Posted on:

Darwell School will welcome a new Principal as the Division bids farewell to Ms. Christine Bzdel from her role as Principal of Darwell School, effective December 31, 2023.

Ms. Bzdel has served as the Principal of Darwell School since September of 2021, after having been a Principal at Hutterite Colony schools in the Valleyview area. During her 4-year tenure with NGPS, Ms. Bzdel has proven to be a dedicated administrator who will be missed by the NGPS community. We thank Ms. Bzdel for her contribution and wish her success in her future endeavours.

The Division is pleased to announce that Mr. Kelly Muir has accepted the role of Principal at Darwell School, effective December 31, 2023.

Mr. Muir is a veteran NGPS staff member who brings a wealth of experience to the position honed over his 25 years as an educator, principal, and active community member.

Mr. Muir began his teaching career at Grasmere School in 1998, before moving to Rich Valley School in 2003. He quickly established himself as a leader both in his school and greater community, working with parent councils, student groups, school committees, teams and community associations as an educator, administrator, parent, coach and volunteer.

"Kelly is an experienced and connected administrator. His commitment to student achievement, connection to our local communities, and experience working with people, organizations and communities in a variety of capacities, will be an asset to the Darwell school community. We look forward to his contributions in this new role."

- NGPS Superintendent Kevin Bird

Mr. Muir holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Education in Leadership in Education from City University.

"I am excited for the opportunity to come to Darwell School and work with the students, staff and community! I see this as the next step in my journey, and career as an educator, and look forward to collaborating with the school community to ensure Darwell School's continued success. I have loved every minute of my time at Rich Valley School and will always value and cherish the relationships and experiences I had with the staff, students and community. I know that I am leaving the school in a great position to be successful moving forward and I look forward to seeing them evolve under new leadership. Thank you Rich Valley!!!"
